USPA NEWS - Barbara Pompili, Minister for the Ecological Transition, received on July 9 Corinne Le Queré, President of the High Council for Climate, who gave her and presented her 2020 annual report. In this report, the High Council for the Climate takes stock of the evolution of greenhouse gas emissions and of France´s climate policies. It makes recommendations to accelerate the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. A body of independent scientific expertise, the High Council for Climate (HCC) was installed by the President of the Republic on November 27, 2018. Its mission is to assess French climate action and the implementation of the Strategy national low carbon (SNBC). The HCC reports annually on compliance with the trajectory for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and on the implementation of climate policies at national and territorial level. The Minister praised the in-depth work of the HCC, which provides an independent view of the consideration of climate issues in public policies. The Minister is aware of the HCC alerts and recommendations.-------------------------------------------------------- Barbara Pompili notably declared that "The fight against climate change is at the heart of the action of the Government. I will work to ensure that we implement all the measures necessary to accelerate the reduction of our greenhouse gas emissions, in each sector, to follow the trajectory provided by the national low-carbon strategy. We have an ambitious goal for 2050, carbon neutrality, and we cannot afford to waste time in the race against climate change. “ The minister stressed that the government would study all the recommendations of the High Council in detail, to which it will provide a detailed response within 6 months, which it will report to Parliament and the EESC. She specified that she will be committed to taking these recommendations into account for the preparation of a recovery plan aligned with climate objectives. Source : Ministry for Ecology
